Telecommunications Engineer

Summary:

The Telecommunications Engineer has primary responsibility for management of wide area networking used for both voice and data transmission at Sirius Satellite Radio. This includes but is not limited to inbound/outbound voice network trunking, MPLS networking, Internet connectivity, Private Lines, and high speed fiber network connectivity. This position requires working knowledge of call centers and call center operations.

 

Position responsibilities:

 

Directs vendors and other support personnel in the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and documenting of the wide area network system.

 

Provides network analysis and performance monitoring using associated network management tools; plans, designs, integrates and documents network growth.

 

Makes recommendations for and manages Networks/Telecommunications budget.

 

Has primary responsibility for managing the Avaya and Cisco PBX systems, including capacity and performance management, Moves/Adds/Changes, upgrades, etc.

 

Provides support and direction for operation of the company?s Customer Service Call Centers and associated ACD, IVR, and VoIP systems.

 

Provides technical training for all network/telecommunications personnel, on an as needed and on-going basis.



Assists in providing support for the billing and cost analysis systems associated with all WAN  systems installed.

 

Maintains all databases associated with voice systems management.

 

Provides management reports and a management reporting service for all WAN systems and infrastructure.


Develops policies and procedures for management of voice, data, and video systems within the network.


Provides support for all cabling associated with the telecommunications network.

 

Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies for the maintenance of the telecommunications systems.

 

Coordinates the installation, maintenance and repair work for all cabling related to the telecommunications systems. 

 

Assists in the preparation of RFPs for equipment and services related to the telecommunications systems.

 

Responsible for gathering the technical information necessary for preparing RFPs.  These RFPs include the purchase of equipment and services that fall within the positions? responsibility.

 

Performs cable installations for all telecommunications systems as required and directs subordinate support personnel in this area.

 

Assists in the help desk for users of voice systems, and directs other subordinate support personnel in the voice help desk area.

 

Supports a trouble tracking system for all telecommunications problems.

 

Assists in the review of telecommunications plans related to construction projects.  Responsible for assisting the Director in the review of all construction plans (blue prints) related to renovations and new construction to ensure that all telecommunications policies, procedures and standards as well as State and Federal standards are incorporated.

 

Coordinates all telecommunications related construction and installation work with contracted vendors.

 

Monitors and inspects all telecommunication installation work to ensure adherence to the Telecommunications Wiring Standards.

 

Maintains cabling documentation associated with the telecommunications system.

 

 

Requirements:
