Overview: 

The Tools Developer supports ongoing design, automation, implementation and monitoring, for an in-house Linux server farm and related networks. This position is responsible for streamlining systems administration processes such as system deployment; change control; backups and recovery; security management. The production environment is 100% RedHat Enterprise Linux.

 

Responsibilities: 

1. Typical projects will include database driven web applications, use of databases to automate reports, ad-hoc reporting and tuning for production systems, configuring and running tests for development systems and services.

2. Integrates programs to use a common database/directory information source using traditional scripting and "glue" code.

3. Updates and maintains complete documentation for all tools and processes maintained by the systems operations team.

4. Publishes team information.

5. Evaluates new tools or software applications and makes recommendations for extending existing products.

6. Assists in the support of internal customers and delivers internal projects from supplied sets of requirements.

 

Qualifications: 

1.  Bachelor's in computer science or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.

2.  5 years experience Unix System Programming and Utilities (Linux bash, perl, php, etc).

3.  2 years experience implementing SNMP MIBS.

4.  Experience with source control using CVS or similar tools.

5.  Database experience (MySQL) including programming and tuning is preferred.

6.  Experience as a system/network administrator in an enterprise environment is highly desirable.

7.  Tools currently in use are Redhat Provisioning Server; Nagios, Snort, Ntop, CheckPoint, Dell OpenManage, Request Tracker, Kwiki.
