Reporting to the Manager of Unix Systems Support, the UNIX Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting both development and production UNIX hardware and software platforms. Assignments include administration support for system adds/moves/changes, the addition and deletion of user accounts, machine builds and installs, business application management, file system and volume creation/management, hardware and OS additions and changes, system monitoring, capacity planning and resource management. The individual selected will further enhance and develop UNIX Operating Systems documentation and training. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter and extremely capable of communicating effectively with co-workers on both the technical and non-technical levels.
3+ years implementing and administering mission critical enterprise class UNIX systems. Working knowledge and experience with SUN hardware ranging from the Ultra Sparc to E-420, E-250, E-3500, E-4500, E-6500 and SunFire series servers. Strong knowledge of Sun Solaris operating system management and troubleshooting.Experience with high-end storage devices and platforms. Demonstrated understanding of file system management.Hands on experience managing File System and Volume Manager tasks. Basic understanding of routed network topology. Basic understanding of Unix clustering.Knowledge of automated backup systems.Ability to multi-task several mission critical tasks/projects with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Support the tools that comprise the backup and monitoring infrastructure. Secondary Job Requirements: Hands on experience with Veritas File System and Volume Manager software. Backup experience with Veritas NetBackupClustering experience with Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster Server or equivalent. Demonstrated understanding of Change Control procedures, High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Open Systems architecture. NT, HP-UX and Oracle database familiarity considered a strong plus. B. S. in Computer Sciences or related discipline
