UNIX (SOLARIS) Systems Engineer

Summit technologies Inc. is in search for a few senior UNIX Systems Engineer to work on a large government contract located in Reston, Virginia.

The UNIX Systems Engineer will work as part of a team to maintain, support, and update UNIX Solaris servers. 

The selected candidates will be responsible for developing systems, products, or processes based on a total system perspective. This position focuses on defining systems/network requirements and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, and then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete solution including planning, analysis, design development, testing, configuration, implementation, and transitioning to the Operations team.

 

?  Specific functions include planning, analysis, UNIX systems/network design and development, assisting in risk assessment, monitoring and analyzing system capacity and performance, and conducting bandwidth assessment/study activities at the server level.

?  Additional functions include: lab testing, quality assurance, configuration, and implementation. This individual will work closely with teammates on tasks associated with requirements definition and participation in a System Requirements Review (SRR), Request for Change (RFC) development and Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) artifact development.

?  Direct interaction with various project managers, matrixed internal teams and the client will be expected.

?  Ensure compliance with all quality processes. 

?  He/She will monitor core UNIX servers and performance reports in order to define action plans for improvements.

?  He/She will be responsible for developing and fostering teamwork across all organization in support of program objectives. 

?  He/She will need to be skilled in interpreting customer requirements and turning them into solutions (functional requirements.

?  Must also be flexible and creative to adapt to environments where functional and business objectives evolve and change rapidly.

?  This will be a very fast-paced environment.

 

Requirements:

? Operational and Implementation experience i.e., enterprise implementations

? Experience leading and completing several large scale Infrastructure/Network related projects from conception to completion (from establishment of business requirements through deliverables)

? Must be able to present and interact with diverse groups of varying technical ability

? Solutions/Integration development skills

? Excellent interpersonal skills and team-working skills

? Familiarity with Industry Best Practices

? Analyzing and defining requirements

? Develop test frameworks, test strategies, test plans, test cases and test reports documents

? Able to report test statuses and results

? Defining and implementing architecture and infrastructure

? Developing system specifications and description documents

? Configuring and optimizing system components

? Ability to perform and analyze results of comparative multi-platform Performance Testing

? Ability to monitor and analyze system capacity and performance

? Able to quickly diagnose and resolve problems

Capable of Installing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and software

? Performing configuration management and risk assessment

? Mentor less experienced team members

? Ability to perform tasks in a timely and accurate manner

? Ability to function well in a rapidly changing environment with little or no direct supervision

? Ability to develop SDLC artifacts as required

? Ability to work effectively, both independently and in collaboration with others

? Proficiency in oral and written communications

? Must have 4 years experience with the Sun Solaris Operating System and SUN servers.

? Must have experience with Veritas clustering software

? EMC SAN experience highly desirable.

 

Desired Experience:

? Prefer a bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, or a computer-related field or the equivalent course work and 6 year practical experience.

 

MUST BE a United States citizen.

MUST BE clearable to Top Secret. Current active Secret or better is preferred.
