Unix Engineering Consultant

TD Ameritrade has two openings for a Unix Engineering Consultant to work at our Headquarters location in Omaha, NE or our Jersey City, NJ location. These positions serve as a technical resource to support the TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation, its subsidiaries, correspondent and partner firms, and any other organization as directed.  These positions will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide daily support and implementation services for Unix/Linux production systems.Troubleshooting includes, but is not limited to; isolating problems, recommending proper solutions and implementing solutionsWork closely with other technical groups located locally and remotelyProvide system design specifications for both UNIX and Linux based server solutions.Implement technical designs with technical designsInitiate proof-of-concepts and related laboratory workDevelop technical documentation to justify system designs.Development of proposals and presentations for review by managementProvide physical planning, scheduling and installation of new computer hardware & software.

a. Enhance standard procedures and configuration management policies to get servers installed and connected to the TD Ameritrade network

b.  Communicate with vendors and other groups to determine needsInterface with Data Center Operations to ensure server is installed in a timely mannerAid in the research, development and deployment of new technologies and methods, process automation and multi-vendor integrationUpdate and maintain system documentation and local procedures.Ensure that any previous documentation is updated with new changesProvide documentation for all new processes and procedures that can assist other team members in maintaining serversProvide hands-on Linux training/expertise to other team members.Provide enhance Linux expertise including but not limited to:

i.  Identity Management and User Authentication

ii.  Standard 32bit and 64bit build architectures and practices.

  iii.  Automation of system builds.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Should have knowledge and experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and SPARC and Intel hardware platforms and the functions they perform.

?  Minimum of 5+ years experience with Linux administration in a large computing environment >300 servers

?  Demonstrated expertise with Linux operating systems, especially SuSE.

?  Must have the ability to follow a task to completion

?  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

?  Ability to work on a team as well as independently

?  Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related

?  Experience with any or all of the following is preferred: AutoYast, RPM creation and usage, kickstart, Novell?s Identity Manager and Zenworks Linux Management (ZLM) tools, Veritas File System and Cluster management

?  Solaris background a plus
