Unix Operations Tech Specialist

Position Summary

The Unix Operations Technical Specialist is responsible for the monitoring,

support and administration of large-scale Unix systems in North America.  This

role involves primarily technical problem solving - often under time pressure

because of the operational nature of the role.  This job will work closely with

Operations Process colleagues and technical disciplines on service issues and

problems.

 

This role is process-oriented and primarily focused on incident management.

The work location is the Operations Console and the workweek is 3-day/4-day,

12.5-hour day shift (7:00am to 7:30pm).

 

The qualified individual will have 3 to 5 years of experience as an AIX Systems

Administrator working with AIX 4.X, 5.X, and related technologies.  Additional

experience in one or more of the following platforms is a plus: Linux, HP-UX,

Solaris, and Tru64.

 

He or she must have the ability to deliver outstanding customer support, work

with a variety of technologies, and provide off-hours support as required.  The

individual in this position must act with integrity, work co-operatively as a

member of a team, and be willing to apply new technologies and processes to

provide business benefit.

 

The successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task, change priorities

based upon business need, and be able to work under pressure.  Qualified

individuals will be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally with

customers, peers, and management.  They should be able to take a leadership

role during projects and problem escalations.

 

College degree or equivalent practical Unix experience.
