VP of Architecture/Engineering

VP of Architecture   (This is a full-time position.  Please no contractors, 3rd parties or H1 candidates)

 

Growing parts outsourcing firm in Manhattan.  Develop solutions that solve replacement part problems for industries such as consumer electronics, cell phones, appliances...  Fortune 500 clients (Amazon, RadioShack...) as well medium sized customers.  Excellent opportunity for someone who has worked in a large company but, would like to be more than a number, have an opportunity to apply their experience and join a a group of team players who are building a successful/profitable organization.

 

We strongly believe  in quality focused, object oriented software engineering that implements the core principles of accuracy, consistency, simplicity and economy.  Information system projects begin with Business Process Documents (BPD) that describe the business process, the objects with which the process interacts, the user interfaces, reporting required by the business, and the operation of the system.  Using the BPD, architects define the base principles that guide design, construction and implementation; design focuses on solving problems within the limits of the architecture; and technicians use the specifications, checklists, templates and test harnesses provided by the software engineers to construct the programs. 

 

The Chief Architect is responsible for the technical direction of the company?s software systems and for insuring they are developed accurately and consistently within the architecture and design guidelines.

 

The software systems include:
Web sites that provide consumer access to parts.
An internally developed Customer Relationship Management System that integrates with Cisco?s IP Contact Center software.
Corporate Sales applications to handle order, shipment and payment for commercial accounts.
Service Center applications that allow technicians to access support information and diagrams and then seamlessly order parts.
Systems that enable manufacturers to outsource part information management, sales, and call center support.
Back office systems that manage tasks such as order fulfillment and shipment through our drop ship supply chain.
Integration systems.

 

Responsibilities

 

Develop and enhance the architectural and design framework that insures high quality information systems are aligned with business objectives.

 

Communicate the company?s architecture to both technical and business users.

 

Guide development engineers in creating designs within the architectural framework and implementing them accurately and consistently across all projects.

 

Evaluate emerging technologies and determine if and when to utilize these new technologies in information systems projects. 

 

Guide and improve the development process, which includes:
Business analysis, Business Process Documentation and review of technology alternatives
Project Management, budgeting and staffing
Detailed design and documentation methodologies using flow charts, UML diagrams, etc.
Change management, versioning and source code control
Prototype development to prove design concepts
Code development and review to insure compliance with our standards
Code specifications, checklists, templates and test harnesses that enable accurate and consistent code construction
Quality control at every step of the development process
Integration and load testing
Release process documentation and deployment techniques
Preparation of documentation and tools that enable Technical Operations to manage and troubleshoot the applications and components.

 

Qualifications

 

Deep understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various software engineering methodologies and frameworks.

 

Hands-on leader and mentor with excellent technical, design, and analytic skills with the ability to communicate with all levels in an organization - corporate management, business users and technical staff.

 

Highly skilled at object modeling and object oriented development.

 

Has a minimum of 7 years of hands on experience leading multiple object oriented development teams and locations.

 

Expert knowledge of either C# or Java and familiarity with both languages and environments.

 

Solid understand of Relational Database Management Systems and their role in business information systems.

 

Experience developing high volume transactional systems.

 

An understanding of message processing protocols and formats.

 

The ideal candidate will have had experience with manufacturing, distribution, web development and call center applications.
