WAN Engineer

Our client is currently seeking a WAN Engineer. This is a senior-level position and the individual must be fully qualified at all aspects of LAN, WAN, and Security administration, hardware and software technical support analysis, communications and network systems analysis, and configuration management. Must be competent to work on highly complex assignments and perform a full range of technical support activities. Must be willing to make timely decisions based on experience, department guidelines, and company policies. May act as a functional/team leader.
Responsibilities: Design, implement, maintain, and support local and remote portions of the enterprise network. Provide third level technical support for all LAN/WAN related operations. Participate in the ongoing support and maintenance of existing WAN and LAN infrastructure. Work in an enterprise IT environment with specific tasks related to network security, firewalls administration, access and perimeter control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring. Responsible for network performance tuning and monitoring. Conduct regular security assessments of the enterprise IT environment. Participate in design and strategy meetings for assigned IT projects for the enterprise. Work with various IT groups for corrective action and compliance to security standards and policies as needed. Evaluate existing communications systems, identify deficiencies and make network performance recommendations. Demonstrated ability to perform complex problem isolation within Telecommunications infrastructures: FXO/FXS/PRI/T1/DS3/SS7 circuits & signaling protocols. Automate daily tasks. Recommend and draft department guidelines and procedures. Provide timely project status updates to customers and management. Create and document logical network topologies. Provide continuous research, assessment, and implementation of new technologies, hardware, and software needed to advance all applications and services. Install and configure communications equipments as needed. Perform after-hours maintenance as required. Mentor and coach peers and other departments on operational processes and technology as needed. Develops and recommends strategies for network growth, security, and other network enhancements by maximizing functionality of routers, switches, and firewalls. Creates and maintains detailed project plans, scope of work, and other technical documentation of all moves, adds, and changes in regards to the wide-are network. Supports the local-area network and corporate data center operations.
Requirements: Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or MIS with a minimum of 5+ years experience in the related field or 7-10 years of related work equivalent required in the related field. Minimum of 5 years experience in an enterprise IT environment with specific knowledge of network security, firewalls, access and perimeter control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring. Hands-on experience with data networks including physical layer infrastructure, servers, LAN/WAN hardware, software, data transmission facilities and interconnecting devices. Proven knowledge and practical application of network security, firewalls, access and perimeter control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring. Must be able to perform all job duties listed in the job duties and responsibilities. Must demonstrate the ability to formulate sound solutions based on formal training, research, and expertise with little guidance from management. Must possess a high degree of professionalism, customer service, and enthusiasm. Strong LAN/WAN troubleshooting capabilities. Must be able to apply a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of technical concepts, practices and procedures. Must also possess strong analytical and problem solving skills. Solid written and verbal communication. Must present exceptional leadership, problem solving, decision making, and time management skills. Ability to provide 24/7 coverage on a rotational basis and overtime as needed. Ability to work in a team environment. Strong virus and security troubleshooting capabilities.
