Terms/ length of assignment: 6 month contract
Position Description/Duties:
To serve as a hardware, network, or software engineer. The primary role of a Systems Engineer III is to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex technical environments, networks, or operating systems. The incumbent will write considerable code and/or will primarily configure and design complex environments in which the software, network, or hardware resides.
Qualifications/ Required Skills include:
Installation of all vendor applications products and solutions, including Retalix MDM and related applications.
Engineering, QA testing, packaging, utility scripting and documentation of IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment edition releases, Fix Packs and interim fixes to support Development, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Production environments.
QA testing and packaging for IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD) releases.
Engineering & development of application build, packaging, configuration scripts and processes to simplify and standardize J2EE application deployment.
Engineering of infrastructure monitoring and performance tools. This includes interpretation of monitored statistics in order to advise on infrastructure capacity planning and application teams on performance tuning.
Third level support and advice to the Supply Chain line of business (LOB) application development support teams. This may include occasional on-call work for support teams in other time zones. The support work involves the problem tracing or debugging of operating systems, Websphere infrastructure, and application code.
Reporting and tracking of WebSphere software issues to IBM.
Third level support and advice to Supply Chain LOB application development teams. Advice typically includes education on standard configuration management and deployment processes, debugging of infrastructure, debugging of application code and advice on performance tuning. This may include occasional dedicated periods of more formal consulting to Line of Business projects, and may be in conjunction with an Architect from the Architecture group or Engineer from the EAI organization.
Participate in the on-going maintenance of the J2EE Application Server area and tries to capture architecture, best practice, quick-start and how-to notes, guidelines and references.
Engineering of scripts, utilities and example applications in UNIX shell scripts, ANT, and Java.
Experience and Skills Required:
Three or more years engineering/administration and some development experience using J2EE technologies.
Experience with data transformation and mapping tools such as Datastage TX and ItemField Content Master.
Proven hands-on experience with IBM Websphere Application Server, version 5.1 or higher; encompassing use of clustered architectures, HTTP Servers, Servlets, Java Server Pages, JDBC Data Access API, Databases / SQL, Java Message Service, Java Naming & Directory Interface and Enterprise Java Beans (in particular session and entity beans).
Candidates must have a good understanding of J2EE development principles, configuration management, change management, testing and J2EE deployment procedures. Candidates must also have hands-on experience with Websphere Studio Application Developer/Eclipse; Microsoft Windows XP & .NET technologies would be useful.
Experience or knowledge of one or more of the following technologies / products is desirable: J2EE Security, IBM DB2/MVS Database, WebSphere MQ, Commerce Quest (Metastorm) Process Monitor, LDAP, Java Management Extensions, Caching, Container Managed Persistence and other object-relational mapping technologies.
Sun Certified Java Programmer, IBM Certified Advanced System Administrator - WebSphere Application Server V5.1, other J2EE, Java or UNIX related certifications are desirable.
Retail IT experience is highly desirable but not essential.
Candidates must be organized, self-motivated, inquisitive, problem-solvers with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education Required:
Bachelors Degree in computer science, engineering, or mathematics required. MCAD/MCSD or Java certified professional preferred
