RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities include the operations and maintenance of the Range Data Transmission System (RDATS), Telemetry Distribution System Equipment (MicEd), and Communications Switching System. Operating and maintaining communications systems. Responsibilities also include the collection and input of preventive and remedial maintenance data into a maintenance tracking database. Support real time missions by performing routing and distribution of real-time telemetry, video and voice data from inter-range tracking stations to mission control rooms by means of manual cable patching and virtual connections. Candidate must interface directly with customers on a daily basis to provide requested telemetry and other data communications resources. Must also be able to troubleshoot and correct communications system problems as they occur in a real time support environment. Provide sustaining engineering, technical advice and assistance to AF engineers and other duties as assigned. Overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Work hours vary by mission requirements.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with ADC Telecommunications, Inc. ATM equipment: Cellworx, AAC-3, and Media mover.
Knowledge of Telemetry, voice, and video data transmission requirements.
Knowledge of operating systems UNIX and Windows.
Knowledge of networking and data link protocols such as IP, Ethernet, Frame-Relay, SONET, T1.
Knowledge of cabling standards including T1, Fiber, Ethernet, coax.
Knowledge of video compression techniques MPEG2.
Active Security Clearance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet. Outdoor duties may be performed on gravel, or shingled roof. Climbing stairs, ladders, towers and scaffolds, indoors or outdoors, is required. Government vehicle is used on an as needed basis. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces. Ability to work in a field environment with some shift work, at remote locations with occasional over-night assignments. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Travel to remote working locations required. The foregoing conditions and physical requirements represent the general characteristics required to perform the essential functions for this job. REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Graduate from an accredited two-year technical school with courses in Math, Basic Electronics, and Microwave Theory or equivalent military training. Must have experience at critical problem solving techniques in a high-pressure mission support scenarios. Must be able to quickly analyze problems and make quick decisions to resolve them as they occur. Working knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot, data and telecommunications networks and equipment. General knowledge of PC operations in a windows environment.Work independently and in a team environment. Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance. Background in general electronics and 3 to 7 years? hands-on radar experience depending on level. Good understanding of radar theory and test equipment used to maintain and repair radar equipment and related devices. Ability to troubleshoot to the component level. Good understanding of tubes, transistors, logic gates and high power R.F. sources
