Field Service Engineer - Rockville - Refrigeration

TITLE: Field Service Engineer - Depot - (Rockville, MD)

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

1. Performs complicated technical diagnosis of operational problems and repairs/calibrations on various types of laboratory equipment to ensure that the equipment is operating to the customer?s complete satisfaction and manufacture specifications. May include running the necessary experiments and/or coordinate among the in-house and outside experts to reach a resolution
2. Installs equipment and perform IQ (installation qualification), OQ (operation qualification), temp mapping and validation protocols.
3. Enters various types of data (i.e. service log, invoicing, knowledge retention, etc.) into computer system.
4. Participate in depot repairs via equipment repairs, training, etc. (May be on a Rotational basis)
5. Supports the Quality System and Quality Policy by following procedures/work instructions and creating records to meet the requirements of the Quality System Regulation and ISO registration.
6. Serves as a source of technical product knowledge and trains, as required, other service engineers and provides supervision as required in the course of this duty.
7. Perform technical evaluations on product changes and on new products. This includes software verification, collection of performance data, assessment of user friendliness, ease of maintenance, etc. Provide written reports on evaluations.
8. Promotes and sells various types of Extended warranty/PM contracts on equipment and SRO?s.
9. Assist with demonstrations, by preparing instruments and supplies as well as giving presentations.
10. Assists Accounts Receivable Department in collecting past due invoices.
11. Assist in the development of manuals and technical information.
12. Performs routine travel and other tasks as required.
13. Hours will vary to cover extended hours / special customer requests.


QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS):

Technical school degree in Refrigeration or Electronics or scientific field, or equivalent experience. 1-3 years of equivalent job related experience, preferably supporting laboratory equipment. Strong inter-personal, self-motivational, & negotiating skills. Excellent communication skills, working across all levels, functions and regions. Demonstrated Thermo Electron leadership values. Willingness to travel. Universal EPA recovery license a plus.
