Helper Mechanic (non-traveling and traveling positions)

FLEET MECHANIC HELPER

Overview

Fleet Mechanic Helpers assist in the maintenance of all light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles/equipment. This includes assisting in routine and preventative maintenance, light fabrication, and troubleshooting and systematic problem detection of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and A/C systems. Must be available for overtime, call out, weekend and holidays as needed. Work locations for non-traveling helpers would be at a garage in one of our crew headquarters located in: Gardendale, Trussville, Hueytown, downtown
Birmingham, Hoover, and Calera. For traveling helper jobs, you would travel throughout the bottom two-thirds of the state, away from home Monday through Thursday each week.

Qualifications

High School diploma with a 2 year Technical Degree in Automotive Technology highly desired

ASE or welding certification preferred

2+ years experience in automotive maintenance field (dealerships, etc.)

Knowledge of light, medium and heavy duty vehicles; Experience with hydraulics and diesel engines preferred

Ability to perform physically demanding activities while working in all type of temperature extremes; Job requires candidates to bend, kneel, crawl, stoop and stand for long periods of time

Individuals also must demonstrate the ability and desire to work safely and display ethical behavior at all times

Shifts: Non-traveling positions work either day or evening shift/ Day shift 7am-3:30pm / Nigh shift 3pm-1:30am/ (must be available for overtime, call out, weekends and holidays as required) / Traveling positions work 10 hour shifts, Monday through Thursday

Requirements for employment as a FLEET MECHANIC HELPER include:

Must be at least 18 years of age

Possess a valid driver's license

Available to work overtime, call out, weekends and holidays as required

Live within 45 mile radius of Birmingham (due to call out)

Pay for a FLEET MECHANIC HELPER position is based on an hourly rate with possible overtime pay. Starting pay is $12.56-$15.00 per hour for non-traveling positions depending upon experience and A.S.E certifications, while traveling positions pay $11.47- $15.00 per hour including per diem (travel allowance) with the opportunity for two raises a year given expected performance.
