Position Summary

 

The Internet Data Center Technician position is responsible for day to day Collocation client support in a Data Center Environment. This position will entail knowledge in TIA / EIA cabling standards, HVAC, electrical distribution, PDUs, UPS, fire detection, diesel generator controls, transfer switches and fire suppression systems.

The IDC Technician is responsible for racking and stacking client and internal computer and networking equipment into the data center facility. Utilizing Remedy trouble ticket system for trouble reporting. Configure and install cabinets, racks, and cages within the data center while adhering to the appropriate Globix standards and procedures. Coordinating, testing, maintenance and installation of all data center connectivity including all copper and fiber optic links. Act as a project lead on some aspects of the operation of the Data Center. The IDC Technician will act as contact for contractors. The jobs will include such as: Remote hands, Reboots, Backup and Tape management, Labeling, Data Center Walk through, cable management, Racking, powering, and ensuring the Data Center is clean and free of combustibles. Strong customer service skills a plus.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Responsible for and maintenance of trouble tickets within the department queue and Building Operations Monitoring systems.

Technicians are required to make rounds in the Data Center. A walk through of each DC floor to provide support to clients if needed and monitor the area.

Assist with the planning of all projects within Globix as related to the Data Center

Responsible for the preparation, installation and testing of all coax, Ethernet and Fiber cable within the Data Center.

Responsible for setting up all rack and stack of client equipment. Oversee the installation of all cabinet rails, shelving and third party installations.

 Position Qualifications Required  

? Education / Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years related experience.

? Skills should include terminating fiber optics cable, CAT5 and coax.

? Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux, Microsoft Office, Visio, and AutoCAD 2000 is a must. Familiar with EIA/TIA standards and electrical IEEE wiring regulations.

? Familiarity with ARS Remedy ticketing system a plus.

? Ability to work in a service delivery environment. Strong customer service skills. Ability to work under pressure.

? Experience in a functional role as a Data Center technician and familiar with equipment associated within a Data Center.

? Special Requirements Must be able to work different shifts. Coverage is 24/7.

? Shifts vary, must be able to work holidays and weekends.

? Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.

? Employee works in a shared environment. Desk location is shared by others.

? Ability to use hand tools and some power tools.

? SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
