Layout Technician

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

-Under limited supervision provides design & drawing services, including but not limited to detail & assembly drawings, piping, structural and plate layout and template development using CAD.
-Works from notes, verbal instructions, sketches, engineering drawings, & specifications to prepare working plans, layouts, & detailed drawings.
-Reviews the design and helps resolve the details not completely defined.
-Develops specifications, designs, or drawings using engineering principals, established company standards, procedures, and instructions.
-Works closely with customers, engineering, and supervision to maintain and enhance the mining operations.
-Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

-Must have completed a boilermaker apprenticeship or equivalent or have 5 years experience as a boilermaker journeyman.
-Must have at least 1 year of layout experience in both shop and field
-Posses knowledge of and be skilled in the use of conventional drafting techniques, including terminology, symbols, dimensioning, and drawing layout.
-Knowledge of the principals and practices of engineering.
-Must have completed course work in CAD and be proficient in producing 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
-A proven ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, team oriented environment.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Possess strong communication skills and be able to work closely with others.
-Skilled in the use of CAD hardware and software.
-Ability to understand and create engineering drawings and blueprints.
-Ability to work in hazardous environments, heat, dusty conditions, confined spaces, and heights.
-Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational safety hazards and safety precautions.
-Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
-Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

-Associate's degree in Drafting & Design Technology
-5 years experience in engineering drafting & design
