Media Distribution Technician

The Media Distribution Technician will play an important role supporting broadcast and non-broadcast productions by accurately and efficiently processing customer orders, duplicating videotapes, creating DVDs, encoding media for distribution and assisting with the master library collection.

 

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

Under the minimum supervision of the Media Distribution Specialist and the general direction of the Production Manager, and following detailed processes and procedures, provide technical support for the University of Washington?s media distribution facility. This includes operating and monitoring complex television production systems, digital videotape machines and DVD recorders, DVD duplication equipment, complex routing switchers, audio mixers, waveform/vectorscope monitors, and computer hardware and software applications. The Media Distribution Technician is expected to take independent action rather than wait for detailed instruction.

 



Minimum Requirements:

Two years of full-time experience/training in radio or television technician work. First class Federal Communications Commission radio-telephone operator's license may be required. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

 

Additional Requirements:

Exceptional attention to detail; thorough knowledge of technical broadcast standards and equipment including tape machines, routing switchers, waveform/vectorscope and patch bays; demonstrate proficiency with Windows and Mac computers and related software; expertise in encoding for streaming media; proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, strong written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional customer service skills.  

 



Desirable Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited television broadcast technical school. Five years of comparable work at a television station. Broadcast engineering experience. Proficiency in Photoshop? software.  

 

Conditions of Employment:
