Metrology Technician

The successful candidate will be responsible for sending equipment offsite for calibration by external vendor, as well as for the in-house calibration of equipment, including: freezers, refrigerators, environmental chambers, RH indications, laboratory stopwatches and timers, Magnehelic differential pressure gauges, and other equipment as necessary.

This position will oversee proper labeling and assure completion of documentation as required to introduce new equipment into the calibration/maintenance programs. Key functions will include generating Out-of-Tolerance reports for items found to be beyond acceptable limits, scheduling vendors for calibration and maintenance activities of equipment not serviced in-house, and assisting in wiring additional points to be monitored by the Building Monitoring System (BMS), in addition to generating weekly trend reports for GXP equipment monitored by the BMS.

 

Responsibilities: Facilitate routine calibration and maintenance of designated equipment, including pipettes, pH meters, balances, etc., according to written procedures and schedules. Actual calibrations may be performed in-house or by external contract service(s).Calibrate, certify, and/or repair temperature, pressure and dimensional measuring devices used throughout the facility. Act as liaison between contract metrology (calibration) service providers. Schedule, coordinate and follow up on service and documentation.Assist Laboratory personnel in implementation and maintenance of proper equipment procedures. Assist department manager as required. Assist in administration, calibration and maintenance of the environmental monitoring system and any other automated cGXP systems.Perform various engineering and troubleshooting projects. Perform various lab equipment qualifications such as temperature mapping. Calibrate dataloggers and thermocouples. Coordinate work with labs and third party calibration vendors. Perform miscellaneous work as required.

 

Requirements: High school diploma (Associate?s degree or technical diploma preferred). 2+ years experience in Metrology/Calibrations, preferably in a GXP environment. Experience with technical documentation.Knowledge of cGMPs is preferred. Some knowledge of instrument qualification and calibration requirements in a GMP/GLP environment is desired.Ability to balance multiple projects.  Visual ability adequate to read and prepare documents, use computer and calibrate/maintain equipment. Ability to lift 40 lbs.  Manual dexterity needed to manipulate equipment to perform metrology duties.Efficient work habits and a acute attention to detail.  Good verbal/written communication skills.Computer literacy.
