Nortel Telecom Builder - Contract

Nortel needs a telecommunications builder for work in IL, WI, MI, IN. This is a contract position with Nortel.  Contractor must have the following:

 
prior experience installing Nortel central office equipment such as DMS, optical, or wireless switch products (no telephone systems)
own installation tools
transportation
laptop computer

 

 

 

 

Primary Responsibilities of Position:

 

This is an experienced position with strong to excellent product knowledge on one or more Nortel products.  Responsibilities include knowledge of and experience with basic building and construction of product hardware architecture at the customer site. Incumbent inventories the hardware and physically builds the product following the hardware job specifications and drawings working independently. Has ability to lead and direct assignments to meet delivery commitment to customer. May have ability to perform power verification and preliminary hardware testing of out of service equipment:

 
Understand and use established safety practices.
Quality awareness and ability to implement quality control processes.
Performs inventory of all job-related material.
Reads and stays current on installation documentation.
Reads and interprets Engineering specs, prints, and drawings.
Demonstrates proper use of tools.
Performs all physical and mechanical installation activities.
Maintain on-site job records and administration tracking.
Performs power and grounding installations on equipment and small power plants.
Performs power verification and power-up of equipment.
Can plan, manage logistics and execute physical installation of hardware on one or multiple sites.
May perform preliminary hardware testing in an out of service environment.
Requirements may include Site Team Leader assignment
When necessary, ability to use a Personal Computer and various software applications (email, Excel, etc?).
Travel away from home for several weeks may be required on demand.
Shift work required upon demand.
Physical lifting of a minimum of 25 pounds required.
Conducts work assignments, communicate, dress and assist customer in a professional manner.
