Power Plant Mechanic (Diesel Engines)

Background

Opportunity at the Reagan Test Site (RTS) located in the exotic and tropical island of Kwajalein in the Republic of Marshall Islands. Reagan Test Site (RTS) complex includes a variety of radar, telemetry, and other instrumentation and communication systems. This location is a beautiful, tropical setting in the central Pacific that offers year-round water sports and many other recreational activities. Kwajalein is similar to most American communities with schools, hospital, stores and all public works. Crime is virtually non-existent and so is traffic, private automobiles are not authorized and bicycles are the primary mode of transportation. The Positions available: Mechanic II, III, IV

Locations: Roi Namur, Kwajalein and Meck Island



Responsibilities: Power Plant Diesel Engine Mechanic II, III:

Performs repairs and adjustments to diesel engines up to 10,000 horsepower; Disassembles, repairs and reassembles diesel engines and ancillary/auxiliary equipment; Performs predictive/preventive/corrective maintenance on diesel engines and ancillary/auxiliary equipment (i.e.: governors, controls, fuel & lube oil systems, radiators, air compressors, pumps, piping, tanks etc.); Operator duties include conducting inspections to ensure proper operating conditions of diesel engines and other equipment; Use diagnostic equipment to perform tests to determine if an engine is performing to the manufacturer's specifications; Reads/interprets blueprints and drawings; Maintains records to reflect work accomplished; Instructs and trains others to become more knowledgeable and skillful in their respective trade/work; Learn additional knowledge and skill of the trade at the next higher level, Mechanic III, IV, or Lead. Performs other duties as assigned.



*Mechanic IV: works on Caterpillar 3508 engines and support equipment. In addition to the mechanic duties outlined above, assists Power plant supervisor with research and writing of maintenance procedures and requirements. Also conducts parts research and assists with parts ordering. May be required to substitute as Power Plant Supervisor during absences of the Supervisor. Instructs and trains others to become more knowledgeable and skillful in their respective trade/work.



Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, and minimum of three to five years experience working as a utility mechanic in diesel engine electric power generating plants. Prefer experience as a floor operator in a Diesel Power Generating Plant, and/or experience with Caterpillar 3600 series engines. Must be able to understand the US Army Maintenance Management System.
