Suppression Department Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION: The position offers the qualified candidate the opportunity to manage one of SimplexGrinnell?s premiere suppression departments.  The individual will be responsible for the supervision and management of over twenty (20) employees while managing organic growth of the Suppression Department to reach company financial objectives.  The position includes but is not limited to the supervision and execution of business within the Portable Fire Extinguisher, Pre-Engineered Suppression systems, Special Hazard systems, and Exhaust Duct Cleaning departments.  In addition, the position seeks a candidate with exceptional customer service qualities to deliver quality service to both internal and external customers.  This position will work directly with the sales, administrative, and field services teams to meet company objectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

?  Manage Suppression business to meet or exceed department financial objectives

?  Management of Suppression staff including field technicians, shop technicians, and supervisors.

?  Oversee the on call rotation for emergency service.

?  Perform site surveys for estimates, material and resource planning, and sales assistance.

?  Review and approve staff time sheets, expense reports, and commissions.

?  Arrange for permits, engineering and drawings when needed

?  Continuously work on training and development of the Suppression department staff.

?  Provide support to sales staff involved in selling Suppression work.

?  Handle incoming calls from customers requiring technical and support information.

?  Insure that all work is completed in accordance with SimplexGrinnell safety policies and procedures. Assist with department safety tasks such as toolbox talks, safety training classes and on-site safety inspections.

?  Enforce company policies and procedures.

?  Assign effective performance measures and motivate employees to achieve and exceed objectives in a professional, timely, manner.

?  Organize and develop an effective team to successfully deliver service and grow the business. Take part in business planning activities.

?  Manage inventory, including ordering of parts and materials, with the assistance of shop personnel.

?  All other items as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

?  College or Technical degree, preferably in a business or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

?  5 years experience in the industrial and commercial fire protection business with a background in Suppression.

?  Demonstrated management/leadership abilities, including training, team building, and administration, effective interaction with both internal and external customers.

?  Excellent math skills a must

?  Experience with PE systems, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and shop functions.

?  Experience estimating project costs, creating proposals, and completing the sale process.

?  Excellent organizational skills, people skills, and computer skills are required.
