Tractor and Trailer Mechanic

Transport America, a leader in the transportation industry, is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Tractor and Trailer Mechanic!  This position is located at our Support Center in Janesville, WI  and works either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday on 2nd Shift.

 Job Summary

 

 

Keep fleet of tractors and trailers well maintained to meet D.O.T. regulations with accurate documentation.

 Job Duties/Responsibilities

 

? Preventative maintenance work.

? Repairing equipment as needed within standard repair times.

? Keeping the flow of tractors and trailers serviced on time.

? Follow preventative maintenance schedule, preventative maintenance services, and repair stances.

? Clean shop.

? Changing tires.

? Repair work ? major and minor.

? Replacement of broken or worn-out parts.

? Repair of interior, exterior and undercarriage of trailers.

? Prepare un-seated tractors for new drivers.

? Prep new tractors and trailers for usage.

? Prep equipment for sale/trade.

? Other various shop duties as requested.

 Work Environment

 

? Mechanics may spend 50% of time exposed to heat, cold, dust, irritants, etc.

? Mechanics may work with and be exposed to hazardous materials.

 Qualifications

 

? Must obtain and possess Class A CDL.

? High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

? 2 years experience in a repair facility or a 2-year degree from an accredited school preferred.

? Knowledge of A/C and Welding.

 Competencies

 

? Must be able to move, operate, lift and store specialized equipment that includes, but is not limited to welding equipment, hand tools, shop machines and power tools.

? Must be able to complete repairs that may require bending, twisting, climbing, squatting crouching and balancing.

? Must have the ability to accomplish specialized detail work required in some repair and diagnostic assignments.

? Must have the ability to accurately read gauges and dials.

? Must be able to exit and enter the vehicle?s cab.  Cab floor-level is generally from 36 to 66 inches from ground level, with exit and entry achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds.

? Ability to operate electronic diagnostic tools required.

? Must be able to spend 50% of the day standing and 50% of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal.

? Manual dexterity to enter data into Tina Workstation.

? Enter data accurately and in a timely manner.

? Ability to read, write, and comprehend written documents.

? Ability to tolerate different temperatures, dust and irritants, etc.

? Ability to work with, read, and comprehend hazardous materials.

? Accuracy on ten-button calculator.
