Truck Shop Maintenance Helper

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

- Safely and productively assist mechanics/repairmen with all repairs and/or rebuild procedures in the Haulage Maintenance Department.
- Perform tasks with other departments (e.g. electricians, welders, operations, etc.).
- Interpret shop/repair manuals.
- Safely lift and operate a 50 lb. pneumatic impact at chest level to perform repair work.
- Dismantle mechanical devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Lubricate, oil, and grease machines/equipment.
- Cleans equipment, parts, tools, and work area.
- Maintain maintenance records and daily reports.
- Prioritize and initiate projects and routine work.
- Actively participate in a team-based management system.
- Willing to work overtime as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

- Prior maintenance work experience
- Ability to learn new skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent safety and attendance record.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Must have a satisfactory work record.
- No active discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of pneumatic and lubrication systems.
- Knowledge of oxygen/acetylene torch use.
- Welding experience.
- Rigging experience

Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills):

Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) during the course of the workday.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
