POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The position of a Utilities Technician has several main responsibilities. The first and foremost responsibility is to operate safely and efficiently all refrigeration and utilities related equipment in a food manufacturing facility that has 60,000 lbs of ammonia, utilizes fire tube and water tube boilers, Ingersall Rand air compressors, domestic hot water systems, glycol chilling units, HVAC systems, spiral freezers, and other misc. utilities equipment.

 

Other duties are responding to daily trouble calls from Utilities or Maintenance Team Leaders. Must be able to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot and repair utilities related problems. Will also own an area of responsibility (AOR) where he will be responsible for certain pieces of equipment to ensure PM?s are done within MFR. recommended schedule and keep their equipment in good repair. Will be expected to generate purchase and service requests for equipment in his AOR.

 

The successful candidate will be very strong in ammonia systems and have Level A certification or equivalent ammonia trade school training. A CA boiler license is also required within 6 months of hiring. Prior Emergency Response training/ experience a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skill in English. Proficient in use of computer based maintenance programs and Windows based for reporting. Must thrive in a fast paced environment and flexible to work any shift and weekends.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Responds to trouble calls for equipment problems from Utilities or Maintenance Team Leaders. Troubleshoots problems, adjusts and repairs machinery. Applies technical knowledge in a timely and efficient manner to minimize downtime. Will be able to quickly identify if problem is above his/her capability and call for appropriate assistance.

2. Conducts daily preventive maintenance inspections, fills out daily logs and performs required preventative actions such as equipment repairs, lubrications, cleaning, filter change, etc.

3. Subject to company policies and procedures, is responsible for the accomplishments of the assigned projects and responsibilities by the due date.

4. Will be held responsible for an area of responsibility (AOR). Determines nature of problem, recommends appropriate solutions, generates purchase  requests, schedules the work, arranges all required tools and makes appropriate repair. Merely reporting a problem to a Team Leader or informing a Team Leader parts are required is not acceptable.

5. Efficient and safe operation of all utilities in the facility during his shift.

6. Communicate with other technicians and mechanics between shifts. Document on daily shift report any problems with system and important passdown information.

7. Will oversee contractors during major overhauls or new installations. Will inspect the work done and hold contractors accountable if work is not satisfactory.

8. Operates a wide variety of commonly used hand and small power tools to perform work.

Documents work completed and time recording requirements of the dept.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

 

1. Level A certification or equivalent ammonia trade school training

2. Is trained and certified as a first responder (ASTI).

3. Utilities Technician will be required to obtain/have their California boiler license within 6 months of hiring or will lose classification and or status.

4. Prior Emergency Response training/ experience.

5. Must pass skill based assessment test.

6. Must have own hand tools.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

6 years of relevant experience in Refrigeration and Utilities maintenance.

 

SKILLS:

 

? Must be able to read mechanical and electrical blue prints.

? Knowledge and proficient use of machine shop tools helpful.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skill in English.
