Water Treatment Installation Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION:


Works as part of a team or independently to install complete or partial water treatment systems, concentrate delivery systems, and reuse supply systems.  Also troubleshoots and repairs components of said systems, and provides technical expertise/support on said systems.  Provides technical and operational training, writes technical procedures and bulletins for distribution to both co-workers and dialysis facility staff.


 


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:


·  High school graduate or equivalent.:  Skills and experience generally acquired through an Associates degree.


·  Requires 2 years experience as dialysis equipment technical specialist, 2 years experience as commercial-industrial water treatment specialist with emphasis on reverse osmosis devices, or comparable experience.


·  Manual/mechanical dexterity, strength and agility to assemble and install water treatment devices, which includes the need for frequent bending, lifting heavy objects, stooping, and the use of hand tools such as pipe wrenches, strap wrenches, and screwdrivers.


·  Strong communication skills, able to provide water system training to both technical and non-technical students in both a formal classroom setting or at a customers site, develop and write technical procedures and bulletins, provide clear direction during telephone technical support, interact with others such as mechanical contractors, clinic managers, GTS reps and managers to support new installations and maintenance of existing water treatment equipment.


·  Ability to understand the requirements for safe hemodialysis water treatment systems.


·  Ability to understand the operating principles of water treatment systems.


·  Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.


·  Ability to travel to installation sites for extended periods of time.


·  Ability to use a computer for documentation and communication.


·  Ability to understand and work with high and low voltage wiring including three phase power.


·  Develop and maintain training materials (power point presentations, lesson plans, lab exercises, etc.).


·  Ability to troubleshoot complex water system problems, both electrical/electronic or hydraulic.


·  Ability to lead a work team in the installation of a water treatment system.  This may include supervising contract labor which are not familiar with our system, policies, and procedures.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


·  Manually place and install water treatment components, either alone or as part of a work-team.


·  Bed or re-bed carbon tanks, multi-media filters, and water softeners.


·  Replace water system components as needed for maintenance or repair.


·  Calibrate water treatment components.


·  Perform test and measurements of component operation to assure safe and proper operation of the device.


·  Complete installations which are logically laid out to facilitate understanding and use, which are free from defects, leaks, etc, and aesthetically pleasing.


·  Coordinate as needed with local resources to ensure installed device meets applicable building codes.


·  Coordinate any on-site electrical, plumbing, or mechanical changes with local sub-contractors.


·  Provide in-service training at conclusion of installation.


·  Collect water samples to validate system installation.


·  Complete installation checklists, job diaries, expense reports, service reports, or other company required documentation accurately and in a timely fashion.


·  Provides expert telephone technical support on water treatment systems.


·  Perform complaint investigations on water treatment devices and assist in engineering projects to improve reliability and reduce cost.


·  Support manufacturing activities by updating parts prints, installation kits, and installation procedures.


·  Perform other duties as needed or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities outlined above.
