Assistant Underwriter - Surety

Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC) underwrites primarily contractors' performance and payment bonds, miscellaneous surety, and commercial fidelity. At our office in Atlanta, we currently have an opening for an Assistant Underwriter.  Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and eager to work in the surety business.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

?  Complete computer entry and printing of all new and renewal business, cancellations, endorsements, execution reports, and other bond related activities.

?  Process incoming and outgoing mail.

?  Pull and process files for the underwriter, maintain file system, and monitor pend system.  Prepare new business and credit files.  Order forms and supplies.

?  Process collateral as required.

?  Obtain underwriting information from agents, attorneys, principals, banks, and other sources.  Order financial and credit reports.  Expedite urgent requests.

?  Issue pre-executed bonds within scope of authority.  Sign, witness, and notarize bonds.

?  Transcribe and type correspondence from tape, shorthand, and/or rough draft.  Type new business and other bond forms and documents.  Produce correspondence with typewriter and word processing equipment.

?  Assist the underwriters in providing quality processing services to agents, attorneys, and principals via phone and/or memo regarding applications, financial statements, collateral agreements, and various other bond matters.

?  Answer phones, take messages, and assist callers.

?  Operate office equipment, including fax, copy and postage machines.

?  Prepare and process paperwork for the filing of Powers of Attorney.

?  Work with agents, underwriters, field representatives, and Home Office on accounting problems.

?  Photocopy forms as necessary.

?  Send faxes as requested.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

?  High school diploma or equivalent.

?  A minimum of six months of clerical experience in a related insurance environment.

?  Proficient computers skills.

?  Proven ability to perform diversified duties involving a variety of established clerical and statistical procedures.

?Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
