Associate Claims Disability Benefits Specialist

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Successfully completing training and meeting incremental goals in order to:

? Accurate and timely administration of disability claims in accordance with Claim Department philosophy, policy language, and state regulations and legal environment.

? Thorough understanding of Colonial?s portfolio of products.

? Managing disability risk through the use of tools such as medical/disability software; in-depth review of medical records; requesting nurse evaluations, independent medical exams, surveillance, and more.

? Frequent verbal and written communication with medical providers and employers. 

? Frequent written, and occasionally verbal, communication with customers in a concise and accurate manner explaining benefits or providing updates on claim.

? Supporting projects and other assignments as needed.

Required:

? Excellent analytical and independent decision-making skills

? Excellent written and oral communication skills

? Proficient at using PC-based systems

? Ability to meet goals in a high production, changing environment

? Ability to work independently within a team-oriented setting

? Ability to partner with others to achieve common goals

 

Strongly Preferred:

? Prior disability or other health-related claims examination experience

? Medical terminology/ Anatomy

? Strong keyboarding skills

? Customer Service experience

? College degree
