Associate Underwriter

To apply the fundamental skills required of a Property and Inland Marine Division underwriter. To perform the required underwriting and financial analysis to make appropriate recommendations.

1. Evaluates and expedites all underwriting submissions. Performs the required fundamental risk analyses to identify hazards and exposures. Recommends a course of action.

2. Handles majority of underwriting referrals on behalf of the underwriters.

3. Determines risk and applies appropriate premiums and conditions to policies with guidance from underwriting staff.

4. Participates, with supervision, in communication with agents during agent visitations.

5. Follows the company policies and procedures regarding the establishment of risk analysis.

Required Skills:
2 or more years of prior underwriting assistance experience. Above-average knowledge of personal computer software and other business machines
Above-average knowledge of commonly used insurance concepts, practices, and procedures
Above-average knowledge of general accounting, finance and economic principles, as well as advanced analytical reasoning skills
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient sales skills
