Claim Specialist/Senior Claim Specialist

The role of the Claim Specialist/Sr. Claim Specialist is to investigate, evaluate and adjust commercial property and/or inland marine claims of a complex or serious nature, including the handling of claim litigation of all types.

-Investigates, researches and analyzes highly complex or severe claims/lawsuits, including coverage, legal and statutory issues affecting coverage, liability/compensability and damages.

-Evaluates and recommends reserve and settlement values on assigned cases.

-Conducts negotiations on assigned cases. Attends pre-trials, trials, settlement conferences and hearings.

-Assigns litigated claims to counsel or others; directs their handling; monitors application of litigation management program; monitors and approves expenses.

-Prepares submissions and reports to CAO on selected files; documents and maintains claim files.

-Maintains current knowledge of law and case decisions affecting appropriate jurisdictions.

-Provides meaningful and consistent large account management to policyholders as needed.

-Directs medical and vocational rehabilitation activities where applicable.

-Maintains relationships with insured, claimants, attorneys, vendors, brokers, agents, risk managers, and medical providers.

-Performs other duties as directed.

Required Skills:
Minimum of 8 years of commercial property and/or inland marine claims handling experience, including large and complex claims. Multi-jurisdictional background and/or large account experience and management a plus.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent business/work experience. Participation in continuing education (e.g. CPCU, AEI) is a consideration when deciding to promote an individual to this position.

Must have thorough knowledge of insurance coverages, litigation handling and management, investigative techniques, medical management, cost containment, vocational rehabilitation, and claims adjustment procedures. Advanced knowledge claim law is required.
