Commercial Field Underwriting Specialist

NATIONWIDE INSURANCE     **This is a field Commercial Underwriting position that will service the state of South Carolina from a residential office. Company vehicle provided.Successful candidate will have 5+ years of commercial underwriting or portfolio management experience.

Summary of Job Responsibilities:
Serves as the field-based primary underwriter and liaison between assigned exclusive agents and commercial underwriting. Performs commercial underwriting and assists in pricing commercial new business for agents top tier commercial agents and in conjunction with agent. Primarily responsible for profitable growth through increased agency activity and production. Analyzes and assesses local market conditions that identify business opportunities for the agency force on new customer acquisition. Principal focus is on new business.

1. Undergraduate degree preferred. Position requires a minimum of six (6) years experience in commercial underwriting and/or portfolio management. Pursuit of technical insurance coursework such as CPCU highly desirable.

2. Requires advance knowledge of all aspects of commercial underwriting practices, procedures, and policies. Working knowledge of agency operations and field agency support needs. Requires the ability to relocate, and travel extensively in the field, service centers, agency offices, and customer business locations. Requires strong oral and written communication skills; able to convey the commercial message in a positive manner to agents.

3. Underwrites and prices new business quotes for perspective commercial customers. Accepts, prices and provides instructions and documentation on commercial risks in conformance with established underwriting practices and standards.

4. Trains agencies and their staff on commercial coverages and products. Provides specialized underwriting service and training on all commercial property and casualty products to agencies and their staff.

5. Partners with agents to prospect and qualify new commercial accounts.

6. Identifies areas for agent improvement that require corrective action. Works with sales management on improvement plans for the agents.

7. Accountable for commercial activity including new production, profitable growth, and data and transaction quality for select top tier agency group.

8. Responsible for obtaining and sharing market intelligence.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.
