About the Opportunity

Commercial Lines Underwriter/ Account Executive
Service Center Operations located in Richmond, Virginia


Selective is seeking an underwriting professional to To contribute to the Service Center profit, growth, retention, service and quality assurance goals and marketing initiatives through acceptance, modification and/or declination and pricing of risks submitted by agents as well as by servicing existing policy holders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Answers incoming calls from policyholders, agents and lending institutions responding to inquiries on coverage, billing questions, payment status and adjustments to policy information based on established Service Center best practices and within prescribed authority on commercial property and casualty lines of business residing in the Service Center,Performs outbound calls and follow-up work required to close out inquiry/transaction,Examines and evaluates exposure through risk documentation (e.g. application, loss control reports, D&B etc.),Works within authority to quote, accept, decline, modify and renew risks within territorial assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines,Ensures adequate pricing of individual risks through proper classification, accuracy of information and adherence to company underwriting standards and philosophy,Applies knowledge and understanding of coverage forms, rating plans and guidelines in the selection and pricing of individual risks,Prepares and provides new insurance quotes for existing policyholders on existing accts generated through cross selling and up selling opportunities,Takes proactive actions and/or make proactive recommendations to improve risk profitability.


Skills and requirements:

Insurance coursework or related Property/ Casualty experience,VA P&C License (to be obtained within 30 days of hire),Also preferred:Bachelor?s Degree in Insurance or related field,Minimum 2+ years experience in automation.
