Court Underwriter – Los Angeles

HCC Surety Group, a subsidiary of HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. and surety bond specialty insurance company, seeks a FT Court department Underwriter with strong accounting skills.  We are located near the Los Angeles airport.  A primary duty will be reconciling agent account statements with premiums received and making adjustments as needed.  Additionally, will underwrite court bonds by assisting our agents and approving bond submissions from branch office employees.  The ideal candidate will have surety or other insurance background and a strong accounting/ finance experience.  A Bachelor?s degree and at least 5 years of related experience and business math skills are required.  

 

.Job Requirements:

 B.S. degree required with an emphasis in Business Administration or Finance & Law desired.5+ years of related insurance, financial or judicial proceedings background.  Accounting (AR/AP) background strongly desired for reconciling accounts and making premium adjustments.  Must be computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook, internet). Must type at least 35 wpm and 10-key by touch.Excellent analytical and business math skills essential for assessing underwriting risk.Must be able to comprehend legal and financial documents.Must be able to deal with disgruntled individuals and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Must be able to communicate information clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.  Excellent business writing skills required.Organizational/ prioritization skills. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 Will handle accounting issues, including reconciling agent accounts, making premium adjustments and interacting with the Accounting department on premiums received.  Will research and review discrepancies.  Will respond to bond requests from agents and branch offices.  Will be required to demonstrate excellent customer service to our agents, clients and branch offices.  Will be required to multi-task with multiple calls and changing priorities.  Will perform underwriting analysis which include a thorough review of financial statements, collateral, etc. and related due diligence.Will respond to requests for release of collateral.Will be expected to visit our agents and develop agency relationships.  Occasional business travel required.  Will liaison with the Claims department for any claims received.Must work well in a small team environment and be willing to do general clerical and administrative tasks as needed.May be involved in training/ supervising administrative staff. Other duties as assigned.
