Director of Outside Litigation

Job Description: This individual is responsible for monitoring/maintaining the quality and effectiveness of approved defense firms. An essential function of this position is the successful implementation of the Legal E-Billing Program, including setting strategy and direction for the overall quality and efficiency of outside counsel. This would include monitoring and implementing changes where needed to achieve annual litigation expense savings goals, resolving billing issues, and to retain/hire external counsel where appropriate. Responsible for reporting expense savings and introduction of future expense saving initiatives. Would work as a liaison between local claim managers of all lines and outside firms on various issues including but not limited to adherence to The Hanover Group?s litigation guidelines, quality control, and firm performance.

Accountable for monitoring external counsel performance through adjuster feedback surveys and counsel performance audits. Ability to identify trends and develop strategies that deliver exceptional expense control results.
Develop, recommend and authorize implementation of continuous improvement initiatives that may result in cost effective enhancements in quality and expense management. Negotiate and manage firm rate changes for all LOBs. Oversee a staff of service specialists and be responsible for their training and continued self-improvement. Track litigation trends to anticipate growth in order to implement new quality firms where needed.
