Disability Claim Unit Manager
Summary of Responsibilities:
Manages the activities of disability claim professionals. Additionally, Participates in customer presentations, new account implementations, customer meetings, and special projects.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Anticipate, resolve and respond to claim problems or productivity issues.
- Identify staffing needs and acquire talent for the future.
- Coach, direct and develop team members to raise individual and organizational capabilities.
- Work with customers to negotiate, arbitrate, and resolve issues, concerns, and expectations regarding process, service and performance guarantees.
-Ensure financial and decisional accuracy - identify training opportunities and process improvement outcomes.
- Manage timeliness and accuracy of claim decisions and meeting critical dates.
- Manage performance of individuals and team; provide performance tools, resources and information to effect highest level of performance.
- Execute performance appraisals and recommend salary changes, promotions, etc. to Claims Operations Manager; including the annual compensation plan.
Required Competencies

-Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
-Solid business knowledge of Short term and Long term (STD/LTD)and Group Life Disability products, in addition to Workers- Compensation, State laws, Erisa and Tax laws, ADA, FMLA, Rehabilitation, Social Security, Special Investigation processes.
-Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology.
-Proficient in use of multiple systems and technology resources
-Ability to read, interpret and explain contracts and disability plans
-Thorough knowledge of business unit products and services for handling Insurance Department complaints and Non-Litigation and Pre-Litigation Law Department referrals.
-Knowledge of accounting principles and techniques in order to identify financial accuracy and payment of claims.
-Minimum 2 years of management experience, preferably in a claim environment.
-Minimum 2 years of disability claims experience preferred.
