Multi-line Field Underwriter (Agency Management Specialist, AMS)

Selective Insurance is seeking a field underwriting professional to be responsible for acting as liaison between the Company and independent agents and clients to ensure familiarity with Selective's products, policies, procedures and services; ensure achievement of territory's new business, profitability and service goals.
It is the responsibility of the individual in this role to ensure positive and effective relationships with all assigned agents:
To serve as the complete field underwriter for our agents, To handle their specific territory as if it were their own business and take ownership of the results, To be the relationship manager for our agents, regional underwriting team and corporate departments, To assess the strengths and weaknesses of their agents and assist them in achieving a mutual goal of profitable growth in both volume and policy count, To make certain that their agents are familiar with and use Selective?s initiatives, products, policies, procedures and services.
This is a field-based (work from home) position reporting to our Mid-America Regional Office (located in Columbus, OH), serving our MN Territory (consisting of Minneapolis, St Paul and south). Successful candidate must live in the assigned territory or in/around the territory.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Developing an agency force that: Pre-qualifies accounts, In-house rates using CLAS, Processes small business using One & Done and/or the Service Center, and Recognizes the value of the AMS position to help them write new profitable business and achieve agency goals,Makes consistent underwriting decisions, adheres to company pricing philosophies and promotes ease of doing business with Selective, Monitors agency results and follows up with agent both as to growth/profitability and compliance with company?s initiatives, procedures and policies, Develop professional working relationship with agent, underwriting, claims and corporate departments, Performs inspections as determined by Loss Control Guide, makes risk improvement or correction of deficiency recommendations and promptly follows up on same, documenting the file accordingly, Stays alert for and advise company of any industry information, new ideas, products or any changes in other carrier philosophies that could positively or adversely affect Selective, Audit agents One & Done business and provide quality assurance feedback to agent and underwriting team, Meet regularly and frequently with CMS, Loss Control Rep, Bond Rep, Personal Lines Rep (if applicable) and AFR (if applicable) to discuss each agency, Assists in directing BSU technical specialists for regional IT training of agency personnel.
Skills and requirements:
College degree or equivalent experience, Viable candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver?s license in good standing with the DMV; have the ability to travel and be on call 24 hours, Must reside in assigned territory, CIC designation, Also preferred, are development experience with several of the following: 5+ years commercial P&C carrier underwriting experience, We require and support the ongoing professional development of our Agency Management Specialists, AMS(s). For this position a candidate must possess an approved certification(s) or achieve certification within 3 years of hire date. Examples of acceptable certifications include: Examples of acceptable certifications are: AIC, ARM, CPCU, CCLA, WCLA, PCLA, FCLA, SCLA, CIC, CRM, CSR.
