Legal Secretary III-New Houston Office

Position Description:

Safeco Insurance is opening a new Staff Counsel office this fall in the downtown Houston area. We are seeking two legal secretary candidates to be part of our growth!

As a Legal Secretary III, one must perform at the highest level in all legal secretarial areas and be capable of serving as a resource person to other Legal Secretaries in the office. Knowledge of statutes and rules of court governing filing deadlines, service, scheduling discovery, and issuance of subpoenas is expected. The position requires experience in dealing with federal and state court personnel as well as opposing counsel in scheduling appearances, mediations and depositions. Primary duties will include opening and maintaining files, preparing pleadings and discovery, scheduling depositions, hearings and mediations. Because of the projected work load, the candidate must posses the ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate flexibility in responding to change.

Qualified candidates must have personal lines and CGL insurance defense experience. We prefer candidates with 10+ years of legal secretary/legal assistant experience. The selected candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office software tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). The qualified candidate will have experience in a fast-paced litigation legal office environment. Staff legal office experience, to include interacting with claims personnel and using claim software to manage cases and pay expenses is preferred. For these openings, the candidate must have knowledge of Harris County courts and court personnel. Effective written and verbal communication skills and prior experience in a fast-paced, multiple priority environment necessary.
