Line of Business Analyst
(for Workers Compensation)
Selective Insurance is seeking an insurance professional to support the casualty line of business strategic direction. The individual in this role wills assist the regions and SBU(s)/internal staff in making decisions that ensure LOB profitability and be accountable for overall commercial lines quality assurance; work closely with the actuarial department analyzing and helping to create our pricing strategies while creating strong relationships with the Commercial Strategic Business Units (SBU?s), Government and Industry Affairs, Claims, BSU, Regions, Reinsurance and Actuarial departments. This position is based at our Corporate Headquarters in New Jersey.
Some essential duties of these positions are as follows:Assist in providing strategic focus on assigned line of business and aid in implementing both long and short term competitive advantage strategies to support the regions and improve commercial lines profitable growth. Conduct loss analyses on a book of business level for applicable lines of business. Assist on underwriting quality audits and account reviews to support regions and SBU(s) at writing more profitable business.Develops excellent working relationships with SBU(s), BSU, Actuarial, Legal, Claims, Compliance, Government Affairs and regional staff to ensure proper project execution.Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.Interprets commercial lines policy language and assists field in evaluating complex risks.Research, develop and modify policy forms.Actively participates in all aspects of effective quality control assessments that may include conducting new and renewal account audits, monitoring and assessing scorecards, large loss analysis and action plans, etc.May serve as an expert witness on independent filed and manuscript forms.Assists in the development of any other tools that would support the regions and agents to increase profitable growth.Stays current with form changes and emerging coverage & exposure trends and makes recommendations or corrective action in dealing with the changes/trends. This also includes state regulatory or legislative developments.Run and analyze COGNOS reports, making recommendations as to corrective action and/or observations. Development of pricing tools, including retrospective rating, deductible or SIR plans, par plans.Annual pricing review analysis and recommendations.Maintain Underwriting Zone tools unique to line of business.Educational presentation to internal or external customers on forms or other technical issues.Other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this position, the following qualifications are required: 10+ Underwriting/claims/loss control or other commercial insurance related experience,5+ Specific line of business (particularly Workers Compensation), 3+ Managing large scope business projects, 3+ Developing and presenting training programs, 3+ Good analytical and problem solving,We require and support the ongoing professional development of our Underwriting Professionals. For this position a candidate must possess an approved certification(s) or identified as acceptable in Selective?s Commercial Underwriting Certification Policy or a demonstrated commitment to achieve certification within 3 years of hire date. Some examples of acceptable certifications include AU, ARM, CPCU, CRM or other industry recognized certification(s).
Also preferred, are development experience with several of the following:Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent experience,Excellent customer service, networking and relationship building skills,Preferred designations relevant to Selective?s Professional Certification Program: CPCU and/or CIC.
