Description:
Purpose: Plan, direct and manage the claims processing activities within a field claims office to ensure the delivery of quality claims service to customers while protecting the assets of the company.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
1. Manages field claims office operations to ensure that adequate resources and technical skills exist to process claims in accordance with company service standards and expectations.
2. Develops, recommends and ensures the execution of policies, systems and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of claims processing operations.
3. Participates in short to medium-term strategic business planning for field claims operations; prepares, recommends and manages to the office's annual budget to ensure appropriate resource allocations and expense levels.
4. Monitors and evaluates the claims reserve practices within the office and ensures that actual reserves are accurate and established promptly to make certain that the financial position of the company is properly stated.
5. Prepares and distributes management reports analyzing and documenting office operations and performance; identifies, analyzes and reports on claims processing trends and issues.
6. Selects and monitors the performance of external vendors.
7. Maintains awareness of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and emerging trends in claims litigation to monitor the company's compliance with the Unfair Claims Practices Act and to recommend process and/or procedure changes.
8. Manages the human resource requirements of the group, including staffing levels, hiring, training, performance appraisal, staff development, salary administration and performance management
9. Builds staff sales involvement to assist in marketing America First to agents.
Position Scope:
Interacts with the Following Departments and/or Customers:
Internally with all technical disciplines within Claims, Corporate Claims management and management levels across all functional areas including Underwriting, Insurance Operations, Finance and Claims to give and receive information and to solve problems.
Externally with Claimants, Insureds, Agents, Independent Adjusters, and Attorneys to evaluate and dispose of claims, State regulatory agencies and bureaus, and trade associations to give and receive information
Qualifications:
Education/Experience/Competencies: Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Skills or Competencies:
* 8 years of progressively responsible claims processing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
* Demonstrated ability to identify & analyze problems and develop and recommend solutions
*Thorough knowledge of company operating structure, management team, insurance products and Claims policies and procedures to ensure appropriate determination of obligations and prompt settlements. General understanding of company insurance systems and Technology support
* Required to be licensed in some states. Industry certifications preferred (e.g. AEI, IIA, CPCU). Thorough knowledge of all types of claims: liability, property, auto physical damage and workers compensation, and legal and medical aspects of claims. Knowledge of underwriting principles.
* Project planning and leadership. Teamwork.
* People management skills including interviewing skills, training, performance management and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization and clearly and concisely express opinions, conclusions and recommendations
* Demonstrated ability to lead & motivate others
