Position Purpose:Supervise job performance of adjusters in their unit. Establish controls and guidelines to assure compliance with company standards and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Perform supervisory and administrative functions (where applicable) including training, technical direction in claim handling. Conduct audits, assist in the selection of employees and evaluation of performance on a daily basis.
Review new loss reports and make assignments to appropriate adjusters. Be involved in defense theories, development of negotiation tactics and innovative settlement techniques. Manage workloads of all adjusters in their unit.
Oversee assignments to defense counsel and independent adjusters on claims of a more severe or complex nature (litigated and non-litigated). The Casualty supervisor should personally handle an appropriate volume of active lawsuits. The Property supervisor should be involved with larger property claims.
Control adjustment and legal expense through efficient utilization of staff and outside services.
Advise the Vice President of Claims of complex or high exposure type claims as soon as knowledge of the claim is known. Inform Claims Management of changes in the legal climate in the area of responsibility.
The position requires being responsible reinsurance reporting on all files requiring reports, as well as being sure billings are completed timely.
Responsible for the management of catastrophic type losses where applicable.
Other Duties:Assist in training of other personnel as directed and maintain a good working relationship with associates, agents and the public. Take prompt action to resolve all complaints and discrepancies. Monitor staff performance through file audits taking appropriate action to correct any negative trends.
Performance Expectations:This position will be assessed based on achievement of the following elements of performance: Attainment of goals/standards for this position; Dependability (Appropriate use of time and resources, including but not limited to phone use, attendance, promptness, funds or asset use; Customer service/sensitivity (of internal and external customers); Teamwork.
Other additional elements of performance will impact this position and will be provided by the supervisor of this position.
Required Education and/or Experience:Supervisors in the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico must have the appropriate adjusters licenses for that state including the following:
1) Bachelor?s degree or 2) Minimum of 10 years adjusting experience with some supervisory experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:All claims supervisory positions require positive results in the following areas of performance: Meeting established goals, dependability, customer service, teamwork, management control, judgment, decisiveness, technical ability and employee development.
The position requires reasoning ability to examine and evaluate coverage and liability issues. Examine and comprehend data furnished in written or oral form. Apply practical mathematical skills commonly used in the adjusting of property and casualty claims.
The position requires specific audio, visual and hearing capabilities involved in the use of computers, recorder and dictation equipment, telephone and other devices commonly used in an office environment.
Work Environment:Functions are generally performed on site and in the office. Must be able to work as a team member to solve problems and exchange information. Some travel is required and may involve overnight stay. The position may require attending mediations or settlement conferences. Must maintain a good driving record in accordance with the company car guidelines (if applicable).
Physical Demands:Employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel. Requires frequent keyboarding and does require lifting, carrying, kneeling and bending while inspecting property claims involving wind, hail, fire or water damage. Also requires the use of a ladder. Generally 20 lbs. or less of lifting is required (if applicable).
