Responsibilities:
The Claims Service Center (CSC) in Scottsdale is responsible for the administration of claims, with claims units handling non-standard auto claims. The claim units investigate, evaluate and settle claims in an equitable manner, serving the interests of the Company, policyholder and claimant while providing superior customer service.

A Sr. Claim Appraiser:

Receives claim assignments from the Claims Manager or other CSC personnel. Determines method of handling claim i.e., inside, independent, preferred repair program, drive-in, etc.

Supervises and/or handles difficult vehicle damage appraisals and adjustments, or claim files involving heavy material damage losses. Evaluates loss and prepares a damage appraisal, estimating the repairs needed. Appraisals include items such as labor costs, actual cash value, calculations, parts and repairs prices, etc.

Reviews documentation of total loss estimates to determine if vehicle is repairable.

Reviews and pays independent bills.

Maintains contact within the automotive repair industry through periodic visits to repair facilities, vehicle dismantlers, and specialized facilities.

Conducts vehicle damage re-inspections of staff and independent appraisers to ensure accuracy and resolve any conflicts arising from the original inspection.

Reviews, monitors and controls estimates, expenses and services of independent appraisers and direct repair facilities. Authorizes payment of independent appraiser expenses.

Monitors and controls expenses related to salvage operations.

Reviews subrogation demands.

Provides training and orientation to new field and/or inside Claims staff on material damage inspections, appraisals and procedures and provides technical advice. Resolves complaints from policyholders, claimants, or State Insurance Departments concerning material damage losses.

Negotiates salvage with vehicle dismantlers.

In some locations, may operate the drive-in claims service.

 

Qualifications
Knowledge of vehicle repairs gained from previous experience in a repair facility, adjusting or appraising responsibilities or course work.
Knowledge of claims processing and insurance coverages is a plus.
Must possess analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment, and evaluate claims to make sound decisions.
Good human relation and communication skills are essential.
The ability to exercise judgment and discretion is necessary.
Must have self initiative and organizational skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills and human relations skills are critical.
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
A strong work ethic with an emphasis on quality and productivity along with strong customer service skills. College degree or equivalent.
