Senior Underwriter - C/L

We are currently looking for a Senior Underwriter to join OneBeacon Insurance in
New Hampshire or Vermont. This position manages a book of complex accounts and
provides underwriting, technical support, and service to assigned agents. The
Senior Underwriter writes risk regarding selection and rejection of new and
renewal business. This position may also act as a coach to newer underwriters.

We are looking for someone who wants to travel throughout territory and who is
very outside sales oriented more so than a typical Senior Underwriter.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manages profitable agency relationships by evaluating results and conducting
portfolio reviews for assigned territory and individual agencies, developing
integrated pictures of factors that affect profitability and growth and
recommending, implementing, and monitoring necessary action plans. Participates
in producer reviews and implements resulting action plans.
2. Examines, identifies, and evaluates exposures by analyzing documentation from
various sources (e.g. application, inspection reports, credit reports, etc.) and
makes underwriting decisions to accept, decline, or modify risks with assigned
territory. Implements underwriting decisions in compliance with state laws.
3. Develops superior working relationships with agents, and with internal and
external partners, to successfully promote achievement of mutual operating goals
and to supply the appropriate products and services.
4. Gathers and analyzes competitor information and agent specific reports on
assigned agents? new business flow, retention, profitability and potential, to
support territorial rate reviews. Working with Territorial Manager, determines
and make recommendations for the rate review, product improvement, systems, etc.

Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
Must be able to identify and describe the major perils insured under C/L
policies and the exposures and hazards considered in making an underwriting
decision.

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor?s degree preferred and 5 years of progressively complex commercial
lines underwriting experience. Professional insurance designation is preferred
(e.g., AICPCU designation).
