State Governmental Affairs Representative

Responsible for identifying and tracking proposed or emerging legislation and regulations to identify the key elements of their proposals and their potential impact on the Company.  Develop and maintain industry governmental affairs contacts at the state level.  Work with Insurance Departments and trade associations to assist the Company?s legislative and regulatory agenda and to provide OGA with information on developments.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Track and influence legislative and regulatory developments on assigned states and specific issues.Establish and maintain contacts with state legislators and regulators, as well as trade association staff.Assist Vice President and other state government affairs attorneys on life and annuity matters.Attend industry and regulatory meetings on behalf of NYL.Identify and prepare analyses and arguments that illustrate the consequences of adopting various legislative and regulatory proposals.Identify legislative trends that could result in broad adoption at the state level.Develop and maintain lines of communication with state legislators and government officials to assist with shaping legislation and regulation in a manner supportive of the Company?s objectives.Prepare internal communications summarizing government relations activities relating to issues of concern.Work with other lobbyists and consultants to maximize impact and the deployment of resources.

 

Requirements for Position: Bachelor?s Degree/Law Degree or equivalent business experienceGovernment relations background strongly preferred Knowledge of insurance-related issues preferred Excellent writing and communications skills a mustGood judgment and strong interpersonal skills
