Subrogation Manager

Summary of Job Responsibilities:
Leads and coordinates the technical, administrative and operational responsibilities of a subrogation unit for assigned state(s). Provides guidance and direction to recovery personnel. Facilitates and supports subrogation objectives and excellence in claims performance.

The following duties cover what are generally believed to be principal and essential functions of the job. Specific circumstances may allow or require some people assigned to the job to perform a somewhat different combination of duties.

1. Manages a subrogation/recovery unit for assigned state(s). This includes recovery evaluation, aggressive negotiations, litigation strategies, vendor relationships, ACE reviews, and disposition of subrogation claims.

2. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with claims in support of seamless integration of subrogation pursuits with claims handling. Effectively applies Best Claims and Recovery Practices.

3. Evaluates subrogation files for proper liability investigation, verification of damages, and legal implements.

4. Provides direction on further investigation strategy in core areas of evaluation, investigation and negotiations.

5. Responds to subrogation inquiries from all areas of the claims operation.

6. Determines and resolves workload and assignments to ensure effective claims subrogation processing, expense management and claims disposition.

7. Represents company at settlement conferences, trials, hearings, disputes, and other external situations. Sits on the Arbitration Board.

8. Develops and implements appropriate training initiatives; trains other company personnel on recovery processes as needed to ensure that proper level of expertise exists in the unit.

9. Manages the hiring, supervising, training and promoting of candidates regardless of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, or disability in support of the Nationwide Affirmative Action Program.

10. Plans and manages unit budget(s).

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary of Job Requirements:
Education: Undergraduate studies. Pursuit of insurance-related courses/designations preferred. State licensing where required.

Experience: Eight years related work experience in recovery/subrogation. This includes three years supervisory/team leader experience.

Knowledge:
* Subrogation and recovery techniques, procedures, planning and administration.
* Business operations related to the insurance industry; claims handling and claims payment operations.
* Knowledge of insurance policy provisions, coverages and contracts.
* Management techniques including personnel administration, team building and training.
* Best Claims and Recovery Practices for Subrogation.

Skills:
* Oral and written communication skills used to interact with all levels of internal customers, investigative agencies, field sales, claims personnel, other insurance carriers, and the public.
* Ability to manage recovery personnel and processes including caseloads, management, business administration, arbitration, and vendors.
* Computer literacy and use of applicable software.
* Ability to make decisions, establish priorities, and set strategic directions.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Normal office environment. Occasional travel.
