IPS is looking for an experienced underwriter to handle coverage inquiries of new business and policy changes involving analysis and recommendation of risk acceptance, using independent judgment within the authority grid guidelines. RESPONSIBILITIES

 

?  Respond to policyholder inquiries via phone and written communications and consult with senior underwriters.

?  Perform effective risk analysis and approve acceptance or declination of new business, renewals and coverage changes, performing necessary system updates.

?  Underwrite to a profitable result following Company and Department guidelines and principles.

?  Educate policyholders and physicians in understanding the terms and conditions of their coverage, and guide them in making appropriate coverage decisions.

?  Perform underwriting reviews and complete special projects as assigned.

?  Visit customers' locations, medical societies and/or conventions.

?  Provide high quality customer service in a timely manner.

?  and coordinate with medical community on underwriting issues and identifies trends in assigned territories.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 Obtain and maintain Broker Agent License within 120 days of hire or transfer for all states in which incumbent performs these job duties. College Degree preferred.One year Medical Malpractice Underwriting or commensurate underwriting insurance experience.Able to plan, organize, assign and maintain priorities of various activities.Demonstrates sound independent judgment and good analytic ability in solving problemsDemonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.Prepare and effectively present comprehensive reports and recommendations. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with public and other  professionals, and to maintain confidentiality.Demonstrate effective teamwork by working with others throughout department.Computer experience using various software packages including WORD, Excel Outlook and software programs related to underwriting (e.g., experience rating tools).
