Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Within delegated authority levels and company guidelines, accepts, rejects or modifies new and renewal business for all personal lines with little or no guidance to ensure a profitable personal book of business. Prices business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines and ensures standards for timeliness are met. 2. Markets the Company products through agent contacts to achieve company growth and profitability targets. Develops on-going relationships with agents, monitors agency growth, profitability and quality of submissions, and keeps agents up-to-date with underwriting and/or product changes. 3. Handles and manages complex books of business to maximize profitability and growth. Reviews loss activity (frequency and severity) for each agent in assigned territory. Considers mix of business, loss ratios by line of business, and fit of business with company guidelines. Identifies problems and patterns and works with agent to correct. May recommend constraints on the business an agent may submit or recommend that an agent be suspended. 4. Prepares reinsurance treaty cessions as needed. Contacts facultative reinsurers and negotiates according to company standards for larger risks by contacting reinsurers with the best price and coverage within delegated authority limits. 5. May train agency staff on the Company products, services, underwriting philosophy, etc. 6. Promotes public image of the Company by speaking to insurance-related groups, drivers education classes, etc.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in a directly related insurance position EXPERIENCE: 2 or more years of direct personal lines underwriting experience. Thorough knowledge of personal lines products. Proficiency in underwriting all personal lines exposures, thorough knowledge of regulatory and policy differences among states in which business is transacted. Actively working toward professional designation(s).
