About the Opportunity
Underwriting Account Manager (Large Accounts)
(for our Mid-America Territory, includes Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky)
Selective is seeking an individual for the Selective Risk Managers (SRM) team to direct and develop profitable SRM accounts in the territory within our Mid-America region that includes Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. The SRM Account Manager manages the design, underwriting, pricing, and marketing of profitable large accounts and alternative risk transfer (ART) products and services; which may include large deductibles, SIRs, retrospective plans, JIFs, all lines aggregates, program business and other non-traditional insurance products, such as captives and rent-a-captives. And also, builds strong alliances with regional field employees in order to seize opportunities and assist in the achievement of profitable results for both the region and SRM.
This position is a telecommuting position (work from home). Successful candidate must live in the assigned territory, in /around the territory.
Some essential duties of these positions are as follows:Focus on new business writing opportunities and the servicing of those accounts within assigned territory to help increase SRM profitability and growth. Responsible for ensuring the overall profitability and retention of complete book of business within assigned territory. Analyze all risk opportunities to ensure profitability by conducting appropriate research in marketing, underwriting, pricing, and issuing large accounts, ART products and associated services. Gather information related to competitive intelligence, industry trends, and consumer needs to ensure competitive advantages in our SRM products. Develop strong effective relationships with agency force, regional personnel, and other SRM personnel to assist in continuing to increase new business opportunities. Assist our field staff and agency personnel in the sale and/or survey process of large accounts and ART business. Provide technical guidance, assistance, and training regarding large accounts and ART products and services to corporate and regional staff, independent agents, and other clients in the areas of underwriting, claims, loss control, and marketing. Heavy interaction with SBU and field personnel, our agency plant, clients, and association representatives. Represent SRM and Selective at agency visits, account visits, trade shows, etc. Assist in strategic planning and implementation of goals for SRM that support Selective?s business strategies. Manage all aspects of the assigned territory to ensure individual and department goals are achieved on a consistent basis.
To be successful in this position, the following qualifications are required:5+ years? progressive commercial P&C underwriting experience5+ years? field underwriting, sales and/or marketing experience3+ years? experience writing large accounts (minimum $200,000+ DWP)Superior customer service, interpersonal, and presentation skillsProven analytical skills that result in creative solutionsAbility to travel frequently throughout assigned territoryPC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)CIC, CPCU or other insurance related designation - This position requires certification(s) identified as acceptable in Selective?s Commercial Underwriting Professional Certification Policy or a demonstrated commitment to achieve certification within 3 years of hire date. Some examples of acceptable certifications include AU, ARM, CPCU, CRM or other industry recognized certification(s).
Also preferred, are development experience with several of the following:Bachelor?s degree (or equivalent work experience)Alternative niche program experience degree in related discipline.
