Assignment Capsule

The Individual Medical Underwriter is responsible for reviewing applications, gathering data and assessing risk.

Utilizes established underwriting skills and techniques to do standard financial risk analysis in conformance with established underwriting policies, procedures and methodologies.

Follows structured training phases to enhance existing productivity and analysis skills

Demonstrates mastery of underwriting fundamentals and demonstrates a more complex knowledge of concepts and impacts of underwriter decision authority.

Key Competencies

Underwriting: Understanding of risk pool management (including risk pool exceptions and outliers), insurance financing / profit levers, and underwriting processes, guidelines and procedures for conducting risk assessment on new and in-force business

Understands the audience and tailors delivery accordingly; shares information appropriately. Presents information and/or recommendations verbally, graphically and/or in writing.

Role Essentials
Minimum of 2 years underwriting experience required or will consider candidates with demonstrated in depth knowledge and understanding of current underwriting procedures. Additional skills include:

Role Desirables

Four year college degree in Business, Marketing or Health-Related major preferred.

Reporting Relationships

You will be in the Individual Medical Underwriting area under the direction of the Individual Product Segment Underwriting Manager.


Additional Information

The beginning business hours of this role are 9:00am - 5:30pm daily. As training in near completion, one late night per week is required, possibly until 9:00pm. Alternating Saturday hours, in place of a weekday, may be required due to business needs.
