Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist - Philadelphia

The Workers’ Compensation Claims Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of workers’ compensation claims (older than 30 days from accident date or for more serious claims from date of injury) being handled by ARAMARK’s Third Party Administrator (TPA).  The Claims Specialist will direct, manage and document handling of workers’ compensation claims and provide oversight to the TPA and internal contacts to develop action plans and bring


claims to closure.  Position will work closely with the operating component, the injured employee, Legal Department and the TPA in problem solving and resolving a claim with the lowest level of issues (or legal concern) while minimizing costs.


Develops and leads the specific action plan necessary for closure of a case, including tracking and overseeing case load of workers’ compensation claims (greater than 30 days from accident date.)


 


1. TPA Oversight:  Manages and ensures that TPA is appropriately reserving claims and has an action plan for closure on all files. Establishes priorities for the TPA.  Provides and communicates proactive resolution strategies to TPA consistent with ARAMARK’s internal settlement/dispute resolution philosophy Participates in periodic workers’ compensation strategy sessions to strategize on file closure and provide TPA oversight direction on files.


 


2. Case Coordination:  Provides guidance and support through communication and liaison with Operations, Human Resources, Safety/Loss Prevention and Risk Management on the status and resolution of open workers’ compensation claims.  Assists managers and others within ARAMARK to understand the claims process and manage it effectively.  Facilitates & provides guidance with return-to-work strategies and establishes communication among the Component,


TPA and HR as necessary. 


 


3. Claims Management:  Compiles case documentation for workers’ compensation claims and labor issues; coordinates and chairs meetings to develop case closing strategy.  Advises and makes recommendations to ARAMARK’s Risk Management Department regarding workers’ compensation case disposition.  Provides and requests settlement authority on workers’ compensation claims in accordance with internal established levels.  Prepares written analysis and settlement recommendations for cases exceeding internal established levels for submission.  Partners with defense counsel and TPA to drive positive outcomes on litigated workers’ compensation claims.


 


4. Works with the Injury Coordinators and Sr. Injury Coordinators to transition the claims from Triage into the Claim Specialist responsibility.


 


5. Works in a team environment and interacts closely with others on a daily basis.


 


6. Claim Specialist will be involved with helping to mentor less experienced team members. 



The desired candidate will have a fluent understanding of the workers’ compensation claims handling process.  This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in business, risk management or a related field (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on lost time workers’ compensation claims experience. The candidate must have excellent

interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of claims database systems is required.  An AIC, ARM, or CPCU designation encouraged but not required. Technical expertise in multiple state workers’ compensation laws is desirable.
