JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Claims Supervisor in their San Diego location! PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To assure efficient, effective activity within technical units assigned for the purpose of producing optimal claim results through aggressive claim management and compliance with Company philosophies, practices and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in clerical or administrative support activities. Plans, prepares, and revises work schedules and duty assignments according to budget allotments, customer needs, problems, work-loads, and statistical forecasts. Verifies completeness and accuracy of subordinates' work, computations, and records. Conduct periodic audits of operations.Interviews, selects, and discharges employees after consulation with human resources and department head.Evaluates employee's job performance and conformance to regulations, and recommends appropriate personnel action. Consults with manager and other personnel to resolve problems, such as employee performance, output quality, and work schedules. Trains employees in work and company policies. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a high degree of the Company's philosophy and technical practices throughout the claims operation. Assist in preparation and delivery of Workers' Compensation education and training programs.Responsible for control and direction of all reported claims within the authority level established by the Manager.Approve reserves and payments within designated limitations of authority and submit recommendations on those which exceed authority to assure reserve adequacy on each claim within the unit.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES;
Directly supervises more than two employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, or legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply principles of logical to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
IEA Certificate, WCCP Accreditation preferred. State Workers Compensation License required at some Branches. California Code of Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 5, Sub Chapter 3, requires claims examiner certification. Claims examiner must provide certificate from previous employer prior to employment start date. If no certification is provided, claims examiner must complete required hours within 12-month period and/or pass the Self-Insured Exam. If these requirements are not met, then unable to provide continued employment pursuant to Section 2592.02(b).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
