Application Architect

 

 

TITLE:Application Architect  (Java/J2EE)

 

REPORTS TO:  Chief Technology Officer

 

DEPARTMENT: Information Technology

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Applications Architect is responsible for the complete technical design of World Book?s web applications as well as the management of outsourced application development partners.  Responsibilities also include the development and enforcement of coding standards and application deployment.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

1.  Establish and maintain a complete understanding of the design, function, and logic of all web applications and components.

2.  Develop and document long term application architecture roadmap and vision.  Insure that all application development efforts are consistent with this plan and advance it.

3.  Working closely with third party development partner, translate business and technical requirements into technical design specifications for application development.  Responsible for final approval of all technical design specifications.

4.  Develop and document coding standards.  Insure that all applications meet coding standards through periodic review of standards with third party development partner and code reviews.

5.  Manage third party development partner to insure the on-time delivery of web applications and enhancements.  Participate in development process through code reviews to insure adherence to coding standards and technical design specifications.

6.  Develop application deployment plans and manage application deployment process.

7.  Insure that all applications are appropriately documented.

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Must have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.

2.  Must have a minimum of 3 years of Application Architecture experience in a web application development environment.

3.  Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in unit testing and code review phases of software development lifecycle.

4.  Must have experience working within a formal development methodology such as CMM.

5.  Must have the ability to work well with business owners to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
