Development Intern

Job Description: Provides technical assistance for complex systems analysis and on-going support for various technologies (Sun Unix, HP blades, Red Hat Linux) architectures and projects within HSBC.com Student must be pursuing a valid computer science degree program in which he/she will graduate with a degree appropriate and useful for work within HSBC.com. All college intern / co-ops must maintain enrollment in a degree-seeking program and be in good academic standing at their university. Transcripts will be required periodically to confirm eligibility. This position will report to the Project Manager of the Artifact Management Team.



The successful candidate will join the Artifact Management Team. Strong project discipline, SDLC and business analysis skills are a must for the candidate.



- Data trending and analysis.

- Understands and document the complex business systems.

- Analyze complex business system data and provide reports.

- Assist in the development, design and implementation of business systems.

- Work as part of a virtual team coordinating with colleagues overseas in multiple locations.

- Serve as member of a project team or as an individual contributor when assigned.

- Plan and co-ordinate tests.

- Develop methods for technology application within assigned discipline.

- Assist in design of complex, global or strategic development projects.

- Provide technical analysis and solutions to issues; sets technical direction.

- Remain current on technical and professional developments and business strategies affecting area of responsibility.

- Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; report control weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events.

Job Experience:
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong communication (verbal/written).
- Strong writing skills.
- Interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Very detail oriented, great organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Perl, CGIs and UNIX shell scripts is a plus.
- Knowledge of IBM WebSphere and WebSphere Portal Server is a huge plus.
- The candidate must be an excellent communicator and highly motivated.
