About the Director, Core Technology Opportunity

In the key role of Director, Core Technology, you will be an integral part of designing and developing the company?s technology roadmap. You will be challenged to join other strategic thinkers within the company to aid in the fulfillment of company initiatives, including owning responsibility for evaluation of third party technologies. This will include identification of potential partners, evaluation of their capabilities, and their fit with the organization. As Director, Core technology, you will aid in the identification of which technologies are of strategic importance for the company to own outright, and use this information to participate in the vital decision to develop technology internally or buy the technology or an external company outright.

In this highly visible role you will work cross-functionally with other departments, and specifically work hand in hand with the Product Development group and their assessment of the cost of building the technologies internally. In addition, you will manage the patent portfolio and standards participation. As Director, Core Technology, you will report directly to our VP of Technology and R&D while you provide technology leadership and direction for InfoSpace?s core technologies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

?Design and develop the company's technology roadmap to be aligned with the company's business goals and product vision
?Manage the patent portfolio
?Manage standards participation
?Analyze competitive threats and develop strategies to mitigate those threats
?Work cross-functionally within the organization to develop cost/benefit analysis for developing technology internally or purchasing technology
?Research and identify potential partners, including third party technology providers, and make recommendations as to who the company should engage with

Required Skills, Education and Experience

?Eight plus years of software and hardware development experience in a structured engineering environment
?Four or more years of recent experience in mobile commerce and/or internet search technology
?Broad industry knowledge with an understanding of the issues which drive our customers
?Experience in the design and architecture of wireless systems.
?Strategic thinking skills and an understanding of what is required to operationalize a strategy
?Experience in financials, drivers & levers to profitability
?Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
?Broad understanding of wireless communications and media technologies, including networks, devices, media formats, DRM, UI technology, and search technology
?BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is required
?Master's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is preferred
